There is no admission fee to join AA, no dues that need to be paid. We are members of AA if we say we are. No one can deny us.

However, the first step tells us that if we want to enter into a new life without alcohol we need to admit, admit we are powerless and helpless. That admission is a costly price for anyone to pay.

Once we have taken that first step, it is behind us, right? We are now free to continue, to work on taking the next step without having to look back. But it doesn’t work like that.

That initial admission must be repeated daily, hourly. It is the tool that combats our ego-driven obsession. Without constantly admitting to ourselves our complete powerlessness we cannot find the energy or grace to develop any subsequent part of this program.

My Experience With First Step

from my experience i realized that I react differently
to alcohol than others. I also experienced the fact and
came to realize that my mind would continually convince
me to pick up that first drink again even though I said
I wouldn't knowing what happens if I do. Only hope was a higher power not my alcoholic mind that was blocking me. Thanks to good AA members they helped me see my truth.

Once we have taken that first step

Hi, my name is Danny and I'm an alcoholic.

Yes, I agree it's a daily, hourly, minute by minute if need be... It has been my experence that I can easly forget that, expecally by staying away from meetings and A.A.

I also turn my life and will over to a care of god as I understand him, only to take it back minutes later.

Once we take a step we maintain it by moving on to the next...

"What we really have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition. "

Step one

Hi,name's Kris, I am an alcoholic.
I gave my life over to my higher power, but in all honesty, it is a frightening experience, to look at yourself, or myself here. I do have the desire to stop drinking. I float to meetings, sit through open speaker, and walk out, scared.

Slogans

Hi,
Aren't the Slogans great. I am pretty sure that your District Grapevine rep. or your Area Grapevine sub com chair could get you a hold of set of Slogans.
Cheers!
